The Criterion Hotel was situated on the curve of the road at the end of London Road where it now joins the roundabout (with the former Pumphouse situated in the middle). This Hotel, and the one on the opposite side of the road (The Pier Hotel) were both destroyed during the Luftwaffe’s Blitz on Pembroke Dock in May 1941. Both hotels were never rebuilt – part of the Pier Hotel site is now a grassed area at the bottom of Tremeyrick Street.
Attached is a photo of the Criterion, taken about 1910. Also one of the Pier Hotel/bottom of Tremeyrick Street site after the bombing raid.
The name Criterion lives in in Criterion Corner, …….. and a local garage.
